As with many have encountered, Zagg invisibleSHIELD for iPad is one piece of rolled up, highly tacky film that tends to stick to itself or any smooth surface. The trick to unrolling the film and application will be described here to help all of you that are ready for some challenging project. Note to self: if you are one of those folks that do not have the dexterity and patience when you are much younger with gluing plastic or assembling your own battle ship, this may be your greatest challenge ever ;)

The iPad shield by zagg comes in a rolled form so here’s what you need to do to apply it with minimal hassle.

    Pre-requisite

    - Create a negative air flow to minimize any dust, debries, fur or lint that may land on the surface of the iPad and the film by turning your kitchen range hood or air cleaner with the exhaust nozzle away from the area you are working on.

    - Wear a comfortable clothes or not wear any /minimal clothing to minimize any lint that may be released by your clothes.

    - have a lint free microfibre cloth handy to wipe your soaked iPad.

    - sun glasses cleaning cloth made of polyester to clean your iPod surface prior to application

    Steps:

    1. Remove all zagg packaging leaving only the film with it’s backing intact. Do not peel off

    2. Wash your hand thoroughly with soap and dry off using a ling free microfibre towel

    3. Wear a shower cap if necessary and don’t scratch yourself since your skin flakes will ruin the project

    4. Clean your iPad screen by slightly dampening the sunglasses cleaning cloth with water making sure any oil and smudges are cleaned off.

    5. Spray both of your fingers with the invisible shield liquid. The liquid is a deionized water to reduce Possible electrical short when it seeps into your iPad through the port holes. i.e. Headset Jack, apple port, mic, etc.

    6. Peel and unroll the film while spraying the film with the liquid as you continue unrolling the film. If your finger start to stick to the film, spray more of the liquid.

    7. Place the sticky side of the film away from your finger and spray the film liberally with the liquid Way from the iPad. Yes, your floor will be soaking wet so be sure to mop it afterward.

    8. Use both of your wet hand to hold the sticky part off the film, while the liquid drips on top of your iPad and align the film to the home button and the edge of the ipad’s glass. Use your fingers as a lever while the other hand gently push the film against the glass. Slowly glide your finger across the sticky film and continue making sure that the film is aligned properly. If not, slowly peel off with the squeegee not your finger nail and start over again. If the glass surface become fuzzy, dry it of and buff it with the sunglasses cleaning cloth while keeping the film on your other hand constantly wet.

    9. Once The film is aligned and seated with lotss of bubbles, start from center, squeegee off the excess water and air to the nearest edges of the iPad. The rubber squeegee woks well when it it slightly wet to ensure glide. Dry off the excess water using the microfibre cloth. Using the dry surface of the squeegee and the plasticky surface of the invisible shield, using an opposite angle of the rubber, begin pushing off excess tiny bubble near the edge and push the film toward the edge of the glass. Do this to the entire edge of the iPad to ensure seamless edge where the film fits perfectly on top of the entire glass surface without any gaps.

    10. Perform the above steps until only pesky tiny bubble remain. These tiny bubbles that can’t be squeegeed off will disappear in 12 – 48 hours as the film tried to settle to it’s normal state. The squeegee process actually stretch the film.

    11. Do not turn on your iPad for at least 12 hours to ensure that any liquid that may inadvertently seep into the ipad’s electronic evaporate as a precaution.

As a sidestep, you can separate the installation of the film for the home button by peeling it off from the main shield for later process. I find this easier for alignment purpose and smoother result.

Good luck to all of you with your purchase of the invisibleSHIELD.

    My review:

It’s a great product despite of the challenge in its application and it looks great. It does not affect iPad’s sensitivity or any of the pinch control. It’s not as smooth as a piece of glass but the rubbery feeling as you go across the screen will take a good use to. Personally, I like the feeling and more surface control.

I purchased two of these for my iPad and installed one yesterday. Actually, I’ll rephrase, I destroyed one and successfully installed another. While it does seem that it would provide ample protection from knicks, scratches and any other assorted horrors that could be inflicted upon my new iPad’s screen, getting this guy on is a pain. Let me sum it up for you: this is a 9 inch by 7 inch sticker that you apply to the face of your iPad……wet. Now, if that sounds like something that would be easy to do, well then have at it. I destroyed one. Reapplied the second about 4 times before I got it on without anything being caught underneath it. Be realistic: do you have pets? kids? dust? If so, you will get something under this guy. Be ready to spend a LONG time getting the bubbles out, although they will come out.

Once you let it sit for a day, it will work some smaller imperfections out and is quite nice. Very clear. I haven’t noticed any reduction in screen sensitivity on mine. So once applied, it is quite a nice shield. Haven’t put it to the test from a protection standpoint yet, and hope that I don’t.

But I would have strangled the designer of this thing yesterday, and then gone after their family. That frustrated.

Realistically, any screen protector for the ipad is going to be rough to put on. It’s big. However add that it was delivered rolled-up (so it had a tendency to try and re-roll), it is applied wet, and really likes to stick to itself, I have to imagine it is one of the more difficult options to apply available.

Installation of Zagg film is not like other films. You basically douse the film with the spray, line it up, squeegy out the large bubbles, then WALK AWAY for 12-24 hours. As in cooking, there are times when you simply have to walk away for a time. If you cannot be without usage of your iPad for at least 12 hours, don’t bother with this film. Granted, I was nervous about the small bubbles, but as the instructions indicated, most of the bubbles disappeared within 24 hours. The rest were gone by 2 days. I did end up with some lint around the edges, but it’s not in the display area, so I don’t care. This is a potential issue with any film. Unless you are in a clean-room, it’s nearly impossible to get lint-free. If you can find an installation service, it’s probably worth a few extra-bucks.

My only installation complaint was that the instructions were generic, so I had no idea that I was supposed to cover the home button as well. I actually threw the button film away.

    My film complaints are:

    1) Film is indeed fairly grippy/tacky/rubbery. I think this is just the nature of this particular film. Before buying, I would definitely try to find someone who already has Zagg film on an iPhone to test out.

    2) Didn’t really reduce glare. They don’t claim that it does, but I was hoping to get some as a natural side-effect.

    3) The film has a strange water-like grain to it that could annoy some people. It’s really not noticeable during normal usage, but it does temper some glare – not much though.

All that said, the film is child-proof. My 3 year-old uses my iPad regularly, which is why I chose this particular film. It doesn’t scratch at all and cleans up easily. For me, the trade-offs are worth it. However, the grip of the film does prove challenging for games that require long dragging.

This product comes with the invisible shield film, liquid and a squeegee. The instructions are limited and don’t tell you what to do with the squeegee. Following the instructions as best I could, I attempted to apply the film. This is a difficult task to do without a second person and by the time I was done, I made one mistake that made the film look terrible.

There’s no going back. That’s money down the tubes. I’ve read some of the instructions from the other reviewers and wish The instructions that came with the film were as detailed.

I’ve never been more disgusted or frustrated with a product. Believe the 1 star reviews; it’s impossible to put this thing on your Ipad without wanting to throw it in the trash. By the time I finally got it on, it was full of fingerprints. Who knows if it really affords the protection that the manufacturer claims it does? Mine ended up going back to Zagg. With a product so deeply flawed at the beginning, I’ll take my chances on the durability Apple designed in the glass without any additional protection.
