And what are you planning to do about iOS4 which will upgrade your 3gs nearly to the level of the iPhone 4?

In any event, unless you saved your SHSH to the Cydia server pror to the release of 3.1.3, you can’t downgrade and, if you can’t downgrade, you can’t unlock.

Upgrade to iOS4 on the 21st and move and see if the developers publish an unlock hack.

This is just an answer to your second question. You are eligible for a full upgrade if your contract ends in December. This means that you get the new customer price – $ 199/$ 299 – for an iPhone 4 in return for signing a new 2 year contract. The upgrade fee is $ 18.

One thing to note about your upgrade. You will be offered a choice of two limited data plans, the 200mb plan for $ 15 or the 2gb plan for $ 25. However, as an existing smart phone customer, you also have the option of keeping your unlimited plan. If you select one of the limited plans, you will lose the unlimited option permanently.

Only the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, and itouch 3rd gen can change the home screen background. Apple deemed the iPhone 3G as not powerful enough to support all of the updates that go with iOS 4, such as changing the home screen and multi-tasking. Sorry, I know it sucks because I have an iTouch 2nd gen and can’t change it either.

No, the iPhone 4 works with the same AT&T 3G network the iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G do. AT&T does not yet have a 4G network for the iPhone to run on and carriers like Sprint use a different mobile technology that is not compatible with the current iPhone.
