Blackberry was once the phone of choice for the city types, a handset that made keeping up to date with everything around you easy thanks to its full qwerty keyboard and excellent connectivity options. Now in attempt to appeal to a broader market Blackberry have released the 8520 Purple, their cheapest ever Curve handset, and one firmly pitched at the more average phone user.

Measuring 109 x 60 x 13.9mm and weighing just 106 grammes, at a glance the 820 purple looks like pretty much any other Blackberry handset. The 2.46″ screen displays a resolution of 320 x 240 and displays over 65000 colours. The screen is the first differences between this and previous more high end models such as the 8900′s where the screen resolution was typically 480 x 360. A glance below the screen and you will find the centrally positioned touch sensitive trackpad. This differs once again from the Trackball found on other models, which Blackberry opting for the newer design due to complaints about the previous trackball getting stuck and developing a mind of its own. Couple this trackpad with the full Qwerty keypad and you have a wonderfully easy to use interface, especially handy for composing e mails or text messages.

Although the Blackberry 8520 Purple isn’t a 3G phone, it does offer a good range of connectivity options that you come to anticipate of a Blackberry device. For those who want to use their handset to surf the net then the WIFI artefact is a great plus point, and Bluetooth is also incorporated for connecting to other devices. As you would expect, the handset come pre loaded with access to Blackberry App World, which gives the individual the choice of many application to install on the 8520, a pretty much essential feature of any modern smartphone. The camera that comes with the Blackberry is a evenhandedly basic affair. With a 2 million pixel resolution the snaps are saint for each day snapshots but demand the definition of some of the higher spec camera phones available.
